Phygital Festival in Digital Sports and Hockey Tournaments to Be Held at CIPR-2024 in Nizhny Novgorod
On May 21, the Ice and Speed festival of phygital sports competitions will be held at the Meshchersky Sports Complex in Nizhny Novgorod as part of the CIPR-2024 conference. A fan zone with game broadcasts, interactive locations, and an entertainment program will be arranged for festival participants and guests. And from May 21 to 23, there will be hockey tournaments in Meshchersky.
The Ice and Speed phygital festival is a competition format that fuses physical and digital sports using virtual reality technologies. This year’s festival will include 3 disciplines:
– phygital basketball
– phygital racing
– phygital sledge hockey.
The festival opening ceremony is scheduled for May 21 at 9 a.m. on the ground in front of the Sports Complex.
An interactive and entertaining program for participants, guests, and spectators of the tournaments will be organized in the street fan zone. All games and main events of the festival will be broadcast on a large screen. Participants will enjoy a variety of activities, including air hockey, laser tag, face painting, a museum of consoles, a field kitchen, life-size puppets, music from DJs, as well as quizzes and active games with great prizes and souvenirs. Furthermore, everyone will be able to experience phygital go-cart racing, first trying out the track on a racing simulator and then taking it for a spin on a real go-cart on the race track in the parking lot of the Sport Complex.
On May 21, 16 teams will compete in the phygital basketball tournament. The game will be played in two formats: first, on consoles interactive basketball, and then on a real court in a 3×3 format. The players will start off competing on the simulator in the phygital zone, and then they will move on to a classic basketball tournament in the game hall. The team with the highest combined score in the phygital part and the playground match will be declared the winner.
On May 21, the phygital race participants will compete against each other in speed, agility, and technique. The tournament will be held in a relay race format. The first pilots from each team will navigate a virtual track on simulators (a set number of laps), then pass the baton to the second pilots from their team, who will be waiting for the start at the steering wheel of the go-cart on the real track. Once the co-drivers have completed the virtual segment, the team’s race relay will end.
The Meshchersky Sports Complex will also host hockey tournaments in three blocks – phygital sledge hockey, a friendly match in sledge hockey, and 5×5 hockey – from May 21 to 23. The phygital sledge hockey competitions will be held in two stages. First, the teams will compete in the digital arena, and then they will move to the ice arena for 3×3 sledge hockey. The Friendship Cup sledge hockey tournament will be held between a children’s team and a team with representatives of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region and CIPR participants.
Four hockey teams signed up for the 5×5 ice hockey cup tournament. DIGITAL SPETSNAZ includes ministers of digital development and heads of digital transformation from the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, a team of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, a select team of the Officers’ Hockey League players from Nizhny Novgorod, and Digital Troopers, which consists of representatives from the business community and CIPR participants. The grand opening of the tournament will take place on May 22 at 7 p.m. at the ice arena of the Sports Complex.
